The Sutro Egyptian Collection, (the Collection), is part of the Museum of Ancient Civilizations, which is located on the fifth floor of the Humanities building, at San Francisco State University. The Museum of Ancient Civilizations contains several collections: the Socebran Etruscan Collection, Lindgren coins, gifts from the San Francisco Academy of Sciences, and the Sutro Egyptian Collection; which consists of over 700 ancient Egyptian artifacts. Every year the exhibit class presents a public exhibition of the Collection, attracting people from throughout the Bay Area, including over 1,000 sixth graders, who visit as part of their curriculum. Scholars from all over the world, make appointments to study various aspects of the Collection. It is, indeed, extraordinary for a California State University to own such a superb collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities, with its unique triple-nesting sarcophagus set and its well-preserved mummy.
